We work with your practitioner or specialist to formulate and compound medications to meet your individual needs. There are many reasons why a particular medication may need to be compounded. For example, stomach upset or side effects when taking oral medication, reluctance to take the medication due to its taste, difficulty swallowing, requiring a different dose of medication than that which is available from a manufacturer or patients who don’t want to take medication at all, especially children or pets.

Modify strengths or inclusion of multiple medicines to save taking multiple tabs/caps and be more cost effective. Quite often, commercially available products come in only one or two strengths. If there is a medication that requires reduced dosing, we can provide the exact amount of medication per dose needed and modify the strength accordingly. Conversely, we can formulate medications with high dosages as a potential single dose.
Make lactose free, colour free, flavour free and preservative free medications or any other allergens. A patient may be allergic to or intolerant of an ingredient commonly found in the commercially manufactured form of a medication such as Lactose, Preservatives, Dyes, Gluten and/or Sugar. North QLD Compounding can flavour many medications to make it more palatable without compromising the medication’s effectiveness or longevity. This is very useful when dealing with medications for patients who may refuse medication, such as young children, elderly patients, or even pets! We can formulate a personalised medication to give you the treatment you need while leaving out the problematic ingredient!
Customise dosage forms and change them from a solid to a liquid or adjust the flavour according to your liking. We can compound medications into alternate delivery methods such as Oral Suspensions, Oral Capsules, Sublingual Drops, Troches, Nasal Sprays, Chewy treats for pets, Lozenges, Topical & Transdermal Creams, Ointments/Pastes, Gels, Lotions, suppositories, pessaries and many other alternatives. Patients who have difficulty swallowing may find it easier to take their medication in a pleasantly flavoured liquid form and some medications can be compounded in a topical form that allows the medicine to be absorbed into the bloodstream through the skin. Certain medications are better absorbed transdermally and reduce the stress on the liver and other internal organs. They are easy to apply and use, and very effective in a short space of time.
Make products that are discontinued and no longer commercially available, in fact, North QLD Compounding can re-create that medication by compounding it and make same formula products that are not made any more. These medications have been discontinued by the manufacturer however they still have a strong presence in the treatment of most of your common conditions with no other replacement and many people still need that particular medication. e.g. Erythromycin gel, Ergotamine/caffeine migraine tablets.
North QLD Compounding can provide solutions for challenges such as these. We work closely with the patient and the practitioner/specialist, and if a prescribed a medication isn’t commercially available, we will source those pharmaceutical grade ingredients and customise it into a dosage form that is most suitable for you, the individual.
